First post here, bought my XJ600S Diversion 1996(EU) about a week ago, it ran okayish, having trouble staying idle (cold) and throttle cable was sticking. Small adjustments here and there, over 100k/km driven, basic clutch rattle etc.
My issue is that when in gear/neutral/off load/on load, bike sputters and pops when twisting the throttle beyond 30%, and this is after carb cleaning. Before cleaning it revved high no sputter. I started to notice yesterday when test driving on the driveway that it actually revved high and quick, intermittent of course. It did this a couple of times soon after I put the kickstand up and got me wondering is it possible that in 4000-5000 rpm range all the vibrations go to the kickstand safety switch, cutting power and opening circuit fast enough to cause stutters, pops and sputters? Also has hanging rpm, comes down when rolling throttle backwards.
Other problem I think of is bad fuel/bad plugs, former owner claimed to drain the tank and put new one in, believed it since it ran okay after warming, no choke needed. Plugs are black and dry, smells like gas, leaning on the electrical side when it didnt start while starter rotated, charged battery and first try without choke and started right up while being cold.
Also did a hand test on exhaust, all cylinders warmed up so it runs on all cylinders. Same test on airbox, it revved high from idle and then died so vacuum is present and pulling fuel from the tank as expected.
Carburetor I did clean thoroughly without separating them, took out both sides intake/air sides, diaphgrams ok, no leaks tested by blowing in the small hole that drives the needle up, on the fuel side needle valve clean and pin works as intended, floats work as intended didnt change float levels, all copper pieces were cleaned in ultrasound, blown with compressed air and looked through all of them so they were not blocked when assembling, throttle position sensor came off and back after cleaning. When assembling made sure to not overtighten any screws, new seals in fuel side lid. All rubber seals in their places they came off, took some pictures before to make sure. Didnt touch sync screws, choke assembly smooth as silk and works as intended.
Sorry for the long post, TLDR; sputters above 4000-5000 rpm, revs hang, carbs cleaned.
