Rear Caliper Discrepancy

I am replacing the seals on my rear caliper as preventative maintenance. The diagram in my manual is a little different than my calipers.
Procedure references replacing "caliper o ring" in both caliper halves. The picture in the manual only shows 1 half with the oring. All the seal kits come with 2. Am I missing something?
Only one of my caliper halves has a recess for the o ring.
Yamaha part diagram doesn't show separate halves and there is NO PART NUMBER for this O-Ring.
I found someone online say that Kawasaki Part Number:
43049-1004 RING,SEAL6.5X11.5X2.2
is the correct sized o ring. I had an order of OEM parts going so added I one of these on along with it, won't know if it fits until later this week.
Also, Yamaha parts diagram shows a shim between caliper piston and brake pads. I did not have this in my bike. Is this only for OEM pads?
Thanks!
PS bonus tip. What is the best way to paint the calipers off the bike? I assume I don't want any paint on the mating surfaces.
