Someones idea of fine engineering - if you can't find the right tool make the object fit the tools you do have. In this case, precision machine with an angle grinder two flats on to another wise perfectly good hex. Mind you, precise machine with an angle grinder means 14.5mm on the inside edge and 13.5mm on the outside, and every leading edge rounded off.
The good news was the axle was well greased and came out easily.
And then there is............
