Funky clutch!

Hey everybody!
Ive been havimg some funky problems with my clutch, it does not engage until its out a good bit sometimes, and other times it engages with short distance. The previous ownwr said he lost the circlip and put the clutch assembly back together without it, will this affect it? It works fine when ur used to it but it doesnt seem normal...
Also if anyone knows the dimension of the circlip i would love to know so i can get it replaced, might also replace the entire clutch anyways
