Strange starting issue

Hello,

My old Yamaha XJ600 51J behaves strangely when cold starting (especially when I have not driven for a day or two). The starter turns around until it is blocked by something in the engine (fuel comes out from the exhaust inner sleeve and flange - a small amount of fuel is on the exhaust pipes). After trying a couple of times (repressing the starter button), the engine starts and everything works normally.

Is it possible that the fuel valve of the left carburetor (the lower one when on a side stand) is worn allowing fuel to leak into the cylinder, and after a day or two the amount of fuel is considerable and just blocks the pistons (when starting)?

Thanks!
