Can girls play too?

I joined last year after I acquired a 93 Seca II, wasn't sure if I was going to keep it. Ended up riding it all season even into November, and have 200 miles so far this year. For Minnesota, this is pretty spectacular! I'm keeping it. How can I not, it's a fun bike! Thought I would say hi again since I haven't been a regular. 
I have never wrenched on my own bike, but I have some mods I want to do, as well as overdue regular maintenance. Its a bike with low miles and very little regular maintenance beyond oil. Runs clean, always starts, but needs some upkeep.
I change the oil myself. Right now it's in a buddy's shop getting new chain, new tires and possibly clutch cable.
What I need to do, and will be here asking a LOT of Q's:
Change the fuel filter and replace the fuel lines. But first, the petcock is gone, as in the the tab to switch it is snapped off. I think I will run it out/very low gas and attack those both at once.
Something with the front forks... I've let people ride it and they say mine is way to "divey"? Maybe just oil? Maybe seals?
Want to do:
Convert to naked, switch to a round headlight
Change out handlebars and mirrors
re-cover seat
Maybe exhaust.
The naked conversion seems the most daunting, but I love a challenge.
