Bench Starting test (in a way)

Hi All i have finally got the engine back in the frame and Next is to add carbies, oil and filter then try to bench start it before going any further.

Any tips on how to do this.?

I have read that it is possible to jumper the Starter Motor and the engine earth to a battery.

I have just replaced my idler & starter gears and i do not want to damage them.

I need to find whether the engine will run before I continue reassembling the bike.
