I am beginning to see why someone would want to just chuck the air box and put on pod filters. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or the boots are just bad or???
Fitting the airbox on the carbs is a half hour to 45 minuets of a knock down drag out to get all the boots on and tightened down, only to have them pop lose after 10 -20 miles. I'm about to the point of just wrapping them with motorcycle assembly tape, (duct tape), and call it a day.
Any of you have this problem or know how to go about making it better? the boots that attach to the carbs are like 1/2 size too small and they have to be shoe horned onto the carbs. Get one side down and the other pops off. They won't hold and won't stay. I have looked high and low for replacement boots for the air box thinking that maybe the plastic/rubber should not really be that stiff and shrunken, but I am not finding them anywhere.
I can always tell when they have come loose as the bike instantly starts running differently. Really don't like riding with the air box just resting on top of the carbs.
Any hope or is it time for the 100 mph tape? :ponder:
