Would a collar make it quiter.

I ride with earplugs, even so the wind noise can be annoying. I've noticed that if I put my glove to the side of my neck pretty far back most of the noise go away. I am talking about a big difference. Even laying my hand on my shoulder makes a noticeable difference. I've expeimented with scarves but they don't stay in position. I saw a collar used for neck protection for karting drivers. I'm not talking about the plastic expensive and seemingly complex ones. This is just a thick textile "onion" filled with some foam or similar.
Do you think it would work, has someone experimented with similar solutions?
