Yesterday morning (Monday), it was pretty cold (probably mid-upper 30*F 's) and after a few miles from home on the highway, my bike started acting like it was running out of gas and finally died. Before it died, I tried switching to reserve & even prime, it didn't make a difference. I pulled into a neighbor's driveway and while I was calling my wife, the neighbor came down his driveway and offered me a ride home after his kid got on the school bus. I opened up the gas tank to check to make sure someone hadn't "borrowed" some gas from me and sure enough there was still gas in there.
A few minutes later, the bus came. I told him - let me try it one more time and it started right up like nothing was wrong. I went ahead and went to a gas station and filled up, it only took 2G to fill up so it wasn't low on fuel. I headed on into work like normal other than being a little late.
It ran fine this morning with no issues.
This Tuesday evening, again cold and in the upper 30s, I was heading home after work and just a few miles from home (my commute is 30 miles one way, usually 45-60 mins) and it did the same thing. I pulled off onto another road out of the way of traffic. I tried to start it a few more times but not for very long as I didn't want to run down the battery. After waiting several minutes, it started right up and I headed home.
So could this be carburetor(s) icing/freezing causing this, since after a few minutes it starts back up and runs like nothing is wrong? Or a symptom of something else? Also since this is a U.S. bike, I don't have the carburetor heaters.
