No spark and starter doesn't turn when pushing start button...

Hi Guys, Im new to this forum so I'm still learning 
, I recently bought a 1993 Yamaha XJ600 Diversion. I bought it for £200 from Scotland, bearing in mind that I live in Manchester. Ive started to slowly clean it little by little.Ive changed the starter solenoid because the old one was rubbish. After this I'm facing two big problems , one of them being that when I put the start button the starter refuses to turn over, but when I use a screw driver and touch it to both bolts, there is some sparks and the started turns and tries to fire the engine up.The next big problem is that when the starter turns over I get fuel and air but no spark on the plugs... Any help would be great.
