I'm many little projects away from a thorough repaint/rebuild of my Seca II (Project Karma).

What is the correct operation of the "pull" flap? Does a ball detent hold it closed, with a spring tying to open it all the time? Or is it the other way around?

In the process of rebuilding the gas cap, I've repaired the broken spring using guitar string (B or high E). I see evidence that there was a tiny ball to work as a detent to hold the "pull" flap closed.

I used a tiny ball from a tiny trashed ball bearing, but perhaps that ball is still too big. Or perhaps the broken spring was a replacement that had been wound backward and it should really be holding the "pull" flap closed (and a ball detent to hold it open?).
