Hello,
I bought my Seca 2 back in early March from a guy who had it sitting for a few years. Worked on it for weeks and had it running great. For about 2 weeks or so I was enjoying the bike, riding as much as I could to get ready to take the road test at my local DMV. Then from my own stupidity I royally F'ed up and the bike is not running now. Depressing and frustrating.
okay, long story short. Hydrolocked it. Didn't know what that was and thought it was a dead battery from the sound the starter was making when I tried to run it. In my frustration of it not starting I hit the button one too many times and broke the starter idle gear and who knows what else really. I took the starter motor off and could see the gear is missing teeth. Been doing my homework on this and looks like I will be splitting the cases and doing some surgery. Found the great write up from Radare (thanks!) and have ordered all the parts. Also have a service manual so while a little nervous to be doing such a big job it seems pretty straight forward. I'm not a mechanic but I know my stuff and do what I can myself as much as possible. Also the Yamaha shop that I would trust with this doesn't want to do it right now since they are busy getting everyone ready for the season.
So what I am looking for here are any tips about taking on this big job. My specific concern is the gears/trans. What are the do's and don'ts of removing the trans? I have only seen pictures of either all the gears still there or nothing at all. Haven't seen anything about what to remove first/last or what shouldn't be touched. Stuff like that. How do I make sure it is in neutral when put back? If there is a write up with some more detailed pics of taking all of that out I would love to have that as a reference as well. Just want to make sure everything gets put back together correct the first time so i can get this damn repair done and get back on the road. Already going to have to reschedule my road test for the second time now. Trying to get started on this over the weekend and just want to get some more info from you guys that have done this. Fingers crossed I don't find any other problems when I open it up.
THANKS
