how do I repair a dent in a stock exhaust can

I'm going to take off the exhaust for painting. the bike had been laid down by the prior owner, so there is a small 3" long scrape indent on part of the muffler that I would like to repair. I know these probably get pretty hot so what should I use to fix it? I can weld and or braise if needed. I'm also good with glass/carbon fiber it they dont get too hot for the epoxy.
