Chain Tensioner (Adjusting Chain Tension)

Hi, I just put on a rear new tire after wearing out the tread. It was easy except when I tried to get the chain tensioner right. I had a buddy do it the last time I changed tires and remembered how to get it set right. I got the chain the correct tension and then tightened the bolts on each tensioner the same amount. I thought that would be it, but the tensioner on the right is really loose. If I tighten it to where its the same tightness, the wheel is cocked way to the left to where I can visually see it that way. How do i get it right?
