This How-to describes the process of installing a wider FZR600 rear wheel on your Seca II.

The Seca II came from the factory with an 18" x 3.5" rear wheel. This rear wheel had a 130 series tire fitted. A 140 series tire can be fit to the stock rear wheel without adversely affecting handling. If you wish to go wider than a 140 series tire, a wider rear rim is recommended to maintain tire profile.

The FZR600 came with an 18" x 4.0" wide rear wheel. This rear wheel is identical to the Seca II rear wheel except that it is 1/2" wider. The FZR600 rear wheel will support a 150 series tire.

Here is a comparison between the FZR600 rear wheel with a 150 tire (on the left) and a stock wheel and tire (on the right).

What you need:
  • 1990-1996 FZR600 rear wheel.
  • Consider replacing the bearings, seals, valve-stem and tire on your new FZR600 wheel before installing it on your Seca II.
How to fit the FZR600 rear wheel:
1. Jack up and support your XJ so that the rear wheel can be removed.

2. Remove the rear axle lock-pin, axle nut and rear axle.

3. Slide the chain off of the rear sprocket and pull the rear wheel from the bike.

4. Transfer the following items from your Seca II rear wheel over to the FZR600 rear wheel:
  • Cush drive
  • Rear sprocket carrier
  • Rear rotor and bolts
5. Slide the chain over the sprocket, slide the FZR600 rear wheel into place and align the rear brake carrier.

6. Fit the rear axle and spacers.

7. Install the rear axle nut and torque to 75 ft-lbs. Install a new cotter pin.

8. Roll the rear wheel through several revolutions and ensure its rotating properly.

9. Take a test ride and enjoy!
