Why can't I get a ProtecTINT Pinlock visor insert in the US?

Gear, accessories, gadgets, etc that make your ride more enjoyable.

I just picked up a new Arai Signet-Q the other day and I'm interested in getting a Pinlock ProtecTINT visor insert.

I've checked several websites and they all say that they're out of stock or not available. I also checked Ebay and only see them listed from overseas sellers, mainly the UK.

Anyone know why I can't seem to get one over here?

Perhaps there is something that doesn't meet the DOT (or SNELL) standards?

I figured it might be something like that.

Maybe I'll try and call Pinlock USA on Monday and see what they say.

You should still be able to buy one from a Euro vendor. I used to ride with an ECE approved helmet that I ordered from Ireland.

Well I got a call back from the Pinlock USA office yesterday.

I was told that most helmets sold in the US have some type of UV protection already in the visor and since the ProtecTINT shield uses UV light to change color and sits behind the UV protected visor, you wouldn't notice a significant color change.

They told me that's why they pulled them off the market over here.

I guess it's easier to pull the product than deal with a bunch of angry customers.
