160 rear tyre

Hi Guys hope you are well. I'm a newbie here from Lincoln in the UK. I'm just finishing my 97 xj600n - paint job and general spruce up. I've been reading some posts that a 160 rear tyre would be unsafe and some that say otherwise. I'm awaiting a purchase of an FZR 400 18 x 4 wheel with a 160/60/18 tyre. I think I may have been a bit hasty when purchasing as I think it could be too wide to safely fit.
