I was recently given a 1992 XJ600 Seca II (red), and am looking forward to working on it to get it back in running shape. The prior owner let it sit in his garage for about 4 years without starting it, so it may take some effort in getting it going. I'm a new rider (and older) in the NYC suburbs. I owned a Ninja 500 for a while, but the riding position didn't agree with me and I didn't ride it much - I had to put some work in on that one get it ready to ride as well. Thanks!

Welcome. This is a better bike than the Ninja 500 aka EX500 aka GPZ500S, but it demands a different, smoother style of riding.

So I put a new battery on the bike, and it turned over fine but didn't start. The previous owner had treated the gas, but then again it sat for a long time and he probably didn't run it dry before he put the bike away. I added a gallon or so of fresh gas and was able to get the bike started - it ran but not that well, it would stall out whenever I tried to give it more gas.

I've come to the conclusion that the carbs are gunked up (technical term). I bought some Seafoam to treat the carburator, but haven't gotten to it yet. In the mean time of course it won't start at all anymore. I'll get back to it soon.

In the meantime, the prior owner of my bike let me drive his 2006 Corvette Convertible two weeks ago, and now I'm in the market for one of those as well (but maybe not as new). I'm trying to talk my wife into buying the yellow one that I just put in as my avatar - it needs some work too (1988).

I'm actually trying to talk my wife into letting me buy the yellow corvette. I've been married long enough to know that the odds of her buying me a corvette are much much much lower than me winning the Powerball drawing this weekend.

Finally, in case anyone is wondering, I am just trying to get to the five post initial level so I can start reading all the posts here that might help me get my bike running. No offense meant.
