I counted 4 seconds between the van pulled out and when he goes down. If he had been paying the slightest bit of attention, he could have either:
a). Let off the throttle, applied the brakes, and slowed down
or
b). Moved into the other lane and avoided the van.

He claims the reason he didn't swerve is because he didn't know where his buddy was, you know that guy he was staring at just before the crash. Even if he thought there was no room on the left, we could have squeezed by on the right pretty easily.

Also blamed his friend for making him ride so fast even though he was leading.

Hmm, for me this looks like too much throttle when cornering.

He said his front wheel locked up the first time, that was the warning, so I'm assuming that's how he went down.

I mean grabbing the front brake like that in a turn is bad enough in dry conditions, in the wet road it's just insane to do.

The first accident was just sheer stupidity. No matter where your buddy is, you can always brake or change lanes. And it is not that he didn't have the time to respond...

The second? I mean, really... The guy seems to hit every white line he can find (extra slippery when wet) and then rides on the bike with a complete lack of fluidness. (For lack of a better word.)

Just did 1200km last week, heading to the south of Germany and back. I've had some situations, but most of the time you have more than enough time to respond.
