Using mechanical tacho

Hi all, I have a 92 plate Xj600 which I am in the process of making naked. I have got a speedo and tachometer off a Honda Cb. I have rather foolishly realises late in the day that the tach is mechanically driven. Is there an easy way I can use this on the xj600? I ideally want to keep the tech as it has the idiot lights integrated. One of my thoughts was to try and take the electric drive from my old tachometer and install it in the Honda casing and wire accordingly. Any help much appreciated!
