Ultimate Tune Up Thread

So in a little over 2 weeks I will be picking up my first bike. I know it needs tires and battery. He says it runs rough and could use some carb work. For all my previous vehicles I always do all the fluids and filters and plugs and wires etc. I have never ridden a bike or worked on one so they are new to me. Just so I can do some pre searching online for parts can you guys give me a list of all the basic tune up items I should do before I take it out. Obviously there might be stuff I find in need of repair but whats a good thorough tune up on these bikes?? If you dont mind listing them and maybe some ideas on what you use for them I would appreciate it. Thanks
