I took a three-day camping trip a few weeks ago through some of my favorite parts of the Ozarks.
Here's a few highlights.

Packing.

It all fits.

Woke up in a FS horse camp to lots of shouting from a loud raspy horse lady.

At some point during the previous evening's ride, the battery drained too far for the charging system to fix it. I had to bump start it out of the campground and because of the notorious warm-up time, had to let it idle next to Hwy 7 for a while. The sign says, "Crooked and steep next 53 miles, drive with care."

Rest stop at Rotary Ann, one of the first FS scenic areas. I spent a summer doing veg surveys down that mountain.

Here's an old school that burned down.

Nice ass.

This is pretty characteristic of Ozark highways.

Here's another neat rest stop with a distressingly rickety tower. Still gotta go up.

I like the Buffalo.

On day 2, I met up with some friends at a primitive campsite in the National Forest down on the headwaters of the Buffalo River. It was only supposed to be 3 miles down a dirt road, but when you take wrong turns, it can turn into about 10. Didn't drop it once, though.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.
