'92 Seca II "Scarlett" - Disaster..

Post by Scape » Sun Mar 06, 2016 12:19 pm

Let me tell you a little about my bike.

It's a '92 Seca 2, and has only 6,900 miles
It was the 3,598th one built (11/91)
Her name is Scarlett.

I drove to Pine City, MN(3.5hours away) to pick her up for $1,000.
I know it's a little much but it is a very clean bike and low miles.

Things to do:
Rebuild Carburetors - Done
Replace Starter Idler Gear - Done
Rebuild/Replace Fuel System - Done

Replace Chain and sprockets
Replace Front and rear tire

Here's a few pictures:

Fun fact: My parents owned a Seca 2 back in 2001. They only had it for a short period of time. They sold it once my mom found out she was pregnant with my youngest brother.

I started dissembling the bike so it will be ready when my parts arrive.

It took me about 2 hours to get the engine removed.(Between helping my brother fix his car)

Here is the progress so far:

Well here's how far I've gotten:
went to the DMV and got plates for the bike.

Dropped off the Carbs at a friends shop for tear down and to be cleaned in the ultrasonic.
Made another order of some odds and ends.

After making my order tonight I am waiting on these packages:

2 orders coming from Partzilla.com
7 Packages coming from Amazon (they like to split up orders for some reason)

Now to wait, I want my parts.. lol I want my bike up and running.

That cost seems about right :(

If you plan on keeping the bike a long while and plan on riding and modifying it, I'd recommend forgetting what those parts cost and not tracking future costs. You can drive yourself crazy. Instead, look at it as an investment in experience. I imagine I have about $6k in my 'black/red '92 and $4k in PBT at this point (very well experienced).

Totally agree.. My quick buy tear down replace starter & idler gears, (and other things ;) ) have cost me over 2k and it is not even finished (do not tell the wife!!).

I find it it the little thing that add up IE: i will paint this, powder coat that, buy new this and then polish that.. at this point i do the little things 1 at a time and the money does not matter...

5 packages are here, 4 to go!

I think I am going to do a time lapse of the starter gear replacement.
Which will be getting done Sunday night after work hopefully.

Carbs will be rebuilt and on the bike Wednesday. I hope I'll be able to ride it then.

I accomplished a lot the last few days.
Most of my parts came in so I got to work.

Dropped of my carbs at a Friend's shop to be torn down and Ultrasoniced.

Spent the better part of the morning rebuilding everything.
I broke 2 acorn nuts and lost 1 pilot washer, So i have to order those and they will be done.

I also got the starter gear replaced and the Engine put back together.
